Filmmaker and writer Karthik Pandian gives a lecture on his practice, methodologies, and recent work. The lecture is preceded by a screening of his 2026 film Surrendur.
About the artist:
Karthik Pandian is an artist and teacher developing ceremonial technologies. He has presented his works in moving image, sculpture, performance, and sound internationally at exhibition venues such as the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Hammer, Palais de Tokyo, and the Whitechapel Gallery and on digital platforms such as the Criterion Channel and Triple Canopy. He is a professor of Art, Film, and Visual Studies at Harvard University and a guide, certified in offering Lama Rod Owens’ Seven Homecomings practice. Pandian’s Creative Capital Awarded-project, Surrendur, is a collaboration with American Indian Movement activist Mike Forcia. In 2025, he presented an exhibition version of the work at Midway Contemporary Art and premiered a short film version at the 63rd New York Film Festival.
About The Barbara Lee Lecture Series:
The Barbara Lee Lecture Series is an annual series that features faculty artists during our summer program. During this series, we open our campus to the public, welcoming our friends and neighbors into the conversations that take place at the School. After the summer program, the lectures become part of the Lecture Archive, a growing collection of recordings that can be accessed online or on request.
