Lecture Archive

The Lecture Archive is the core of The Library and one of our most important sources of inspiration and research. It is a living archive connecting past and present through a wide array of artistic forms and practices by the many artists who were faculty at Skowhegan.

Our Lecture Archive began in 1952 and includes nearly 800 lectures mostly by visual artists, but also from poets, architects, philosophers, journalists, curators, historians, and choreographers. The lectures at Skowhegan weave our collective and expanded history by connecting the artistic imagination to a flow of ideas, political and social contexts.

The Lecture Archive is open to Skowhegan alumni, faculty, researchers, and anyone curious in exploring our collections. The archive includes an index of all lectures, each accompanied by a brief description to help you discover topics of interest.

We are actively working to upload more lecture recordings and videos. This process is ongoing, but you can always request access to the full recording of any lecture by emailing Lynn Perry, our Archives Assistant, at archive@skowheganart.org. You can also explore the Lecture Archive through the JSTOR database.

We regularly share a curated selection of lecture recordings and videos online through our Editorial Content.
