Emerging Artist Fellowship Exhibition

Socrates’ Emerging Artist Fellowship Exhibition is the setting for skowheganPERFORMS. The exhibition features fifteen new commissions created over the summer in the park’s outdoor studio. Rather than organized as a thematic show, each artist presents a distinct artwork that embodies their innovative exploration of sculpture in the public sphere. Each responds specifically to the park’s unique, waterfront and urban environment with conceptual and formal works that are at once visually compelling, subtly mysterious, and socially-engaging.

Proposals for skowheganPERFORMS were submitted in the same spirit. Performances are site-specific, using the landscape and history of Socrates as well as existing works throughout the park as launching points to engage viewers and form a dialogue with the unique setting the park offers. Performances may be one moment, ongoing, or repeated over the course of the afternoon at various locations. We hope performances this year will be especially dynamic, engaging with the features of the park itself, as well as with other participants.
