Our 2025 Barbara Lee Lecture Series begins with a lecture by Guadalupe Maravilla. Guadalupe’s transdisciplinary practice is rooted in autobiography, activism, and healing. “I see my art as a Trojan Horse for healing,” he explains, “drawing viewers visually, only to lead them into a healing experience that invites them to reflect on their own spiritual practice.”
Combining sculpture, painting, performative acts, and installation, Guadalupe grounds his transdisciplinary practice in activism and healing. Engaging a wide variety of visual cultures, Guadalupe’s work is autobiographical, referencing his unaccompanied, undocumented migration to the United States due to the Salvadoran Civil War. Across all media, he explores how the systemic abuse of immigrants physically manifests in the body, reflecting on his own battle with cancer.

About the Barbara Lee Lecture Series:
The Barbara Lee Lecture Series is an annual series that features faculty artists during our summer program. During this series, we open our campus to the public, welcoming our friends and neighbors into the conversations that take place at the School. After the summer program, the lectures become part of the Lecture Archive, a growing collection of recordings that can be accessed online or on request.
