Exploring
The New York
Public Library’s
Art Collections

Artists throughout history produce research as part of their practice, borrowing tools and methodologies from historians, archaeologists, ethnographers, and sociologists. Artists, however, also have the potential to break, fragment, and divert history in order to create new narratives. 

The Artist as Researcher is a collaboration with The New York Public Library to provide new paths of exploration in the institution’s remarkable archives and collection of images alongside librarians and researchers. This series of workshops offers visual resources in support of the creative convergence of research with the development of an artistic language. 

The workshops are held on Saturdays and are accompanied by coffee and light bites. Attendance for each workshop is capped at 35 people. They are free and open to all.
