You Should Have Seen It

You Should Have Seen It is a zine printed in 2024 by Skowhegan, featuring stories and documentation of lost and destroyed artworks from Skowhegan alumni across eight decades. The zine showcases works by eighty-three Skowhegan alums, curated by Rebecca Shippee and organized by the Skowhegan Alumni Alliance. The zine has four thematic chapters: “it was their fault,” “it was my fault,” “it wasn’t meant to be,” and “it never was,” in addition to four commissioned essays by Chelsea Flowers, Danny Greenberg, Birgit Rathsmann, and Abbey Williams. You Should Have Seen It aimed to highlight the often ephemeral nature of art and the necessity of proper arts archiving by placing stories from various social contexts and media landscapes in conversation with one another.
