Yoshua Okón, Resident Artist Lecture 2014

Artist Yoshua Okon shows a series of videos ranging from the 1990s to current work during his lecture at Skowhegan. Okon sees his practice as a hybrid discipline rooted in performance, video and installation, which is also formed by his collaborative and curatorial work. In the early days of being in artist in Mexico city, Okon talks about collectively starting an artist-run space called La Panderia to exhibit work that wasn’t being shown in mainstream museums, and also reflects on his many years living in Los Angeles. For Okon, his artistic practice is seen as something that can stimulate critical thought, and something that can empower people to inspire them to be critical thinkers.
