William Zorach, Visiting Artist Lecture 1961

Abstract

William Zorach gives a lecture at Skowhegan talking to the students about the importance of building a community of artists for themselves and the importance of building friendships with other artists. Zorach also shows a series of slides of his sculptures. Sculptures allow him to create a feeling of love for things that are felt, seen, and lived. He seeks to have his sculptures communicate something out of him and into his work. He tells artists that if they don’t have the quality of soul or personality in them, they won’t be able to offer it to others.
