Will Insley, Visiting Artist Lecture 1991

Artist Will Insley begins by conjecturing where art began in terms of civilization and where it begins in the individual, sharing anecdotes from his own experiences as a child, as an architectural student, in the army, and working as a file clerk in the photo studio of the Metropolitan Museum which influenced his future work. He continues with autobiographical information about his efforts at and dissatisfaction with expressing himself as a painter and leading up to his decision to return to abstract work based on his training in architecture, culminating in a description of his well-known One City project. This is followed by a chronological showing of slides with commentary and description, again with a detailed look at One City, but including work after the show of that work at the Guggenheim Museum.
