Tony Smith, Visiting Artist Lecture 1967

Tony Smith talks about his confinement during childhood due to tuberculosis and how this influenced his later ideas as an architect, contrasting the human scale of European walled cities to the difficulties of producing something similar in American cities which are defined by open space and a lack of relationships between buildings. One piece of the artist’s sculpture, Amaryllis, which was displayed in a show at the Whitney is talked about in some depth.
