Tommy Lanigan-Schmidt, Visiting Artist Lecture 2013
Abstract
In this slide presentation at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, artist Thomas Lanigan-Schmidt shares numerous stories about his experiences growing up gay and Catholic in Elizabeth, New Jersey, and later when he ran away to New York. The art he shares is selected to concentrate on the dual subjects of queer culture and the Church, and he also comments on the art world and American culture in his early career as an artist, which he reports dates back to his school days.
