Theaster Gates, Special Lecture 2015

In this performative lecture,Theaster Gates talks about his work through singing, slide shows, and dialogue with the audience. Gates talks about work rooted in social practice, and how that has allowed him to create objects and be invested in space production that feels urgent beyond art. This type of artistic practice has also allowed Gates to have harder conversations with bigger groups of people at the same time. For Gates, his capacity to be generous to others has allowed him to heal himself. Generosity to others as an artists has allowed Gates to create an anti bacterial medicine that makes him better and his core stronger.
