Sidney Hurwitz, Resident Artist Lecture 1968
Abstract
Sidney Hurwitz spends the first part of his lecture talking about the writings of Ernst Gombrich, James Johnson Sweeney and Eric Kahler, and their relationship to visual art. Hurwitz then shows a series of slides of his drawings, etchings, woodcuts and paintings. Hurwitz reflects on his time traveling and encourages the participants about how seeing different places can inspire shifts in artists; he uses the example of visiting Germany which allowed him to explore watercolour in his artistic practice.
