Sarah Oppenheimer, Resident Artist Lecture 2015

Abstract

Artist Sarah Oppenheimer talks about her painting practice through showing a series of slides. Oppenheimer talks about her work being influenced by thinking about architectural surroundings, virtual environments, and holes that are found in these virtual environments. Oppenheimer seeks to explore the digital manipulation of material, and makes the distinction of being interested in not so much the mass production of architectural materials but in the mass customization of architectural materials. Oppenheimer also talks about her interest in how a single frame or a single mechanism can frame two spaces simultaneously, and how one can collapse different spaces in a single field. Composition is also an idea Oppenheimer is invested in her painting practice, due to her investigation into compositional hierarchy.
