Ron Gorchov, Visiting Artist Lecture 2017

Abstract

In this intimate lecture through slides and conversations, Ron Gorchov speaks about is life as an artist, his many years in New York, and the work of other artists who have had an impact on him. Gorchov touches upon the development of the art world, and how it has now functioned in a way that wouldn’t exist without the legacy of Skowhegan. Gorchov also speaks to the legacy of constructive criticism that he has received over the years from his colleagues, and the importance that this can have on an artists development. Gorchov mentions that this intensive feedback has allowed him to go beyond himself as an artist, and that it can lead to the psychological changes all artists can embrace. Finally, Gorchov advises the participants that if they really have a desire to do something, they will find a way to do it.
