Robert Hale, Visiting Artist Lecture 1960

Curator of American painting at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and drawing instructor at the Art Students League, Robert Hale presents a lecture on anatomy for the artist, starting by creating drawings of a person and a horse which show common mistakes the beginner makes in trying to draw what he sees, and then drawing muscles over the basic skeletons and pointing out how some muscle groupings which share the same function (extending or flexing a joint) can be drawn as a mass. He then fields questions ranging from how to draw an elephant to policies and structure of the Met with regard to new purchases.
