Robert Gober, Visiting Artist Lecture 2016

In this lengthy Lecture, Interdisciplinary artist and curator Robert Gober talks about his upbringing attending Middlebury College as a student and then making the move to New York City in the 1970s. Gober talks about this decade as an artist, and how painting became an economic means of making work. This also allowed Gober to become more interested in imagery then painting. Gober also reflects on the doll house series, and how for him it connected to larger ideas of autobiography, and the symbolism of houses. Gober goes on to talk about the physicality of making objects in the world as something simple, human, and primal that allows for things to be recreated again to exist. Gober also speaks about his role as a curator, and how it allows him to bring in new sensibilities that being an artist didn’t reward him.
