Richard Porter, Visiting Artist Lecture 1982

Richard Porter gives a lecture talking about the work and life of Henry Varnum Poor. Porter describes Poor’s interdisciplinary practice which spanned paintings, ceramics, pottery, drawings, and printmaking works. Porter says that throughout all of the work Poor did, it was always rooted in late French modernism. Poor would experiment with all kinds of mediums to make his work, drawing from traditional methods to making his own oil sticks to even drawing with matchsticks which he would dip in India ink. Porter comments on the fact that despite the many changes that happened in his paintings, his watercolours were one part of his oeuvre that always stayed the same.
