Richard Long, Visiting Artist Lecture 1992

Abstract

Declaring himself to be a classical artist whose approach to landscape involves a primitive simple vocabulary based on lines and circles, British artist Richard Long shows how he has used raw materials such as stones, water, wind, mud, and the elements to make art which is ephemeral and rooted in nature. His ideas are expressed in a variety of ways, drawings of his walks on maps, photographs of his sculptures, gallery installations, or text works derived from ideas generated by his walks.
