Richard Artschwager , Visiting Artist Lecture 2004

Abstract

Richard Artschwager gives a lecture talking about his interdisciplinary artistic practice. For Artschwager, his interest in looking for obsession and exploring ideas of purity is what drives his work. Artschwager also talks about making a shift from science and math to art. Artschwager references his interest in furniture and sculpture, saying that learning trade skills is more important then having a job. For Artschwager, learning different trades allows him to explore scales and notions which he can use in his art not as a social comment but as a device. This allows him to make something that can expand the notion of what art is for him.
