Rebecca Morris, Visiting Artist Lecture 2016

Rebecca Morris begins the lecture by talking about her own experiences as a participant in Skowhegan 22 years ago, and the impact that it had on her as an artist for years to come. Morris then talks about her painting practice exploring ideas of how one can mark time with date, as well as the many mediums she works with to construct her paintings: watercolour, solvent, oil. Morris then goes on to talk about the importance of revisiting paintings, and how old work can reveal vital information that can lead to new dynamism in her work. Morris also talks about the need to photograph a lot in the studio as her paintings are happening, for it allows her to see how colour continues to change.
