Radcliffe Bailey, Resident Artist Lecture 2006

African-American painter Radcliffe Bailey shows slides of his work and talks about the influence of family, African art and culture, jazz music, spirituals, baseball, DNA, the number seven, and African American history on his painting, calling attention, where applicable, to special materials and pigments such as Georgia clay, tar and indigo. At the end of the lecture he responds to questions about layers of meaning in his work; the personal DNA profile he had done; the identities he develops from old photographic portraits; and the duality of his relationship with the past and the present.
