Phong Bui, Visiting Artist Lecture 2006

Artist Phong Bui traces the evolution of his artistic philosophy and practice, punctuating his talk with anecdotes and quotations, citing De Kooning, Cezanne, Ryder, Gorky, Matta, Ucello, Cimabue and Caillot, among others, as sources and influences. Questions from the audience concern materials; the development of his site-specific installations; whether he considers the viewer’s movement around the space in his installations; the genesis of The Brooklyn Rail (of which he is publisher); and his thoughts on art and identity.
