Phoebe Helman, Visiting Artist Lecture 1989
Abstract
Phoebe Helman gives a lecture at Skowhegan talking about her interdisciplinary artistic practice which spans painting, drawing, printmaking and sculpture. Throughout the lecture, Helman comments on how it has been a struggle to find her voice as an artist but this struggle has allowed her to still experience success through the many different materials she turns to. Helman also talks about the importance of working in a series, and some of the themes that Helman thinks about are architectural spaces, the proliferation of images, and realizing that art is always made through present eyes and by always being present.
