Peter Krashes, Guest Lecture 2005

Peter Krashes gives a lecture at Skowhegan talking about his painting practice rooted in ideas of motion and time. Krashes is interested in devices and techniques such as camera obscura and photography, exploring the roles they play as guides in his paintings. Krashes sees painting being a representation of himself and unveiling the conceits of that. Krashes also talks about the need to lose control of his practice by inviting people into the studio to deliver different types of images and contents using mirrors and props. This process leads to Krashes exploring the fragility of the human body and distorting the human image. Krashes ends his lecture reflecting on how thinking through all of these things gives him new forms for him to paint, which for Krashes can’t be achieved in any other medium.
