Peter Gourfain, Resident Artist Lecture 1991

Peter Gourfain gives a lecture at Skowhegan talking about his artistic practice which is initially rooted in painting and drawing. Gourfain’s work addresses themes of politics, activism, and identity, where he draws from news sources and other images to construct these narratives. Gourfain also talks about the importance of landscape painting for him, specifically painting the sea and other rural scenes. Gourfain ends his lecture by talking about leaning new skills for him as an artist: including how to make his own pigments, paints and finally clay to create ceramics.
