Paul Resika, Resident Artist Lecture 1976

Paul Resika gives a lecture at Skowhegan where he shows a series of his paintings and drawings spanning the years of 1942-1977. Resika states how for him, paintings are humble objects that contain everything he wishes to say as an artist; both his deficiencies and strength as a person. Resika also reflects on his experiences living in New York and the many teachers he has had who have shaped him into the artist he is today. Resika ends the lecture by telling participants that the more they hone their craft, the more they reveal themselves. Resika further goes on to say that revealing themselves requires patience but it will lead them to their destiny. By following our destiny, our best work will also reveal itself to us, and we realize as artists we are just getting started.
