Milton Resnick, Resident Artist Lecture 1981

Milton Resnick gives a lecture at Skowhegan, immediately starting off by telling the participants about the difficult precarious nature of being an artist, and the difficulty and rigour it takes to make paintings. Resnick says that as an artist, one will always be confronted by things that will be unfamiliar. It is important for artists to be open to that and allow themselves to ask questions that they don’t seek out everyday. It is also important for artists to be aware of their limits. Resnick ends his lecture by telling the participants that the more artists make their visions peripheral, the more they can take in the kinds of paintings we wish to make or see.
