Michael Smith, Resident Artist Lecture 2011
Abstract
Following a tongue-in-cheek introduction by fellow artist and 2011 faculty member Daniel Bozhkov, performance and video artist Michael Smith delivers a presentation at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture that includes video clips and still images from a number of projects, with particular emphasis on his signature characters Mike and Baby Ikki. His talk addresses the origins of his characters, human and other resources that he draws upon, the various “communities” that his work both takes from and crosses over into, and his sense of how his own limitations impact the type of art that he makes.
