Matt Mullican, Visiting Artist Lecture 2005
Abstract
Artist Matt Mullican gives a lecture at Skowhegan talking about his interests working with found material, installation, sculpture, performance, and light. Mullican tells the participants the importance for artists to always open things up and expand them continuously. Mullican’s practice also reflects ideas of mortality through geometrical drawing, cosmology, and signs. For Mullican, signs represent memory and language, and Mullican seeks to understand this relationship between signs and his brain. As an artist, Mullican views his brain as something which shapes how he feels and seeks to represent himself through making videos, performances and exploring hypnosis.
