Mary Frank, Visiting Artist Lecture 1976

Mary Frank gives a lecture at Skowhegan showing a series of slides that depict her ink drawings and mono prints. Frank talks about the process of making her drawings and how she works from imagination, life drawing, and sculpture. Frank is interested in capturing the ordinary nature of everyday life. Frank describes the influence a wide range of ideas have had on her practice, ranging from botanical gardens, museum spaces, and dance; all of which have led her to exploring these themes. Frank goes further into detail about how dance has become a way of living for her, and how it also lends itself as an entrance to her drawings and prints. All of these ways of working help Frank to perceive and connect with the world she lives in. Frank goes on to talk about other ways of working she has developed for herself, which include terracotta, woodworking, and sculpture.
