Martha Rosler, Visiting Artist Lecture 2006

Abstract

Artist and writer Martha Rosler shows slides of her photographs, photo-montages, and clips of her videos (Semiotics of the Kitchen and Domination and the Everyday) as she discusses her work, addressing issues of war, feminism, and air transport, as well as a collaboration with e-Flux called the “Martha Rosler Library Project.” Rosler also talks about the distinction between activism and activist art; her concerns about the loss of impact when older art is canonized; the pros and cons of museums; and the difference between art and documentary video.
