Marlene McCarty, Resident Artist Lecture 2011
Abstract
Reading from prepared text, artist Marlene McCarty talks about her education in design, her early years as an activist with Gran Fury, and two major bodies of later work, specifically her drawings of child murderers and those focusing on the area of primatology. Questions from the audience address issues of feminism; trauma; the prevalence of nipples, sometimes misplaced, in her drawings; her perception of her audience; the source of her interest and information on the subjects she has chosen, and the emphasis on symmetry in her compositions.
