Marjorie Portnow, Resident Artist Lecture 1989
Abstract
Marjorie Portnow gives a lecture at Skowhegan talking about her practice as a landscape painter and trained art historian. Portnow reflects on some of the things she sees in her art: how to deal with light, colour, and space in landscape painting. Portnow also reflects on how light is something that is behind her, and how it can make something very bright. Studying light has allowed Portnow to also think about the repetition of images, a concern with the environment, and ideas of intimacy and grandness. Portnow ends her lecture stressing the importance for the participants to always have a support group around them where they can always be in dialogue and have an exchange of ideas.
