Lorraine O’Grady, Visiting Artist Lecture 2013
Abstract
Speaking before an audience at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture on the subject of “Both/And,” artist Lorraine O’Grady touches on the subjects of race, feminism, ancient Egypt, Baudelaire, Michael Jackson, and contemporary politics and culture, both in her own work and in a larger context. Questions from the audience further draw out her thoughts on these subjects, as well as what constitutes artistic rigor, and the place of text in art, in particular the relationship between poetry and art.
