Liz Larner, Visiting Artist Lecture 2007

Liz Larner gives a lecture at Skowhegan spanning a practice rooted in photography, sculpture, and textiles. Larner is interested in how materials can be activated to speak and operate in a space through a poetic way. This mode of thinking has also allowed Larner to investigate the poetics of sculpture as well. For Larner, sculpture is different from architecture because of this very potential of poetics it has, and the ways in which it can lack value use. Larner is also interested in the idea of the corner which can operate as a space to push ideas into. From working with found material to working without colour, Larner is interested in studying the notion of the object, the way objects can be remade, and the ways in which remaking objects can give Larner the freedom to allow her ideas to always be mutable and open to change.
