Leonardo Drew, Visiting Artist Lecture 2009

Artist Leonardo Drew talks about his dramatic evolution from a precocious teen with a facility for creating beautiful illustrations to a mature sculptor who negated the pretty surface in favor of works which draw on decay and oxidation which mimics nature in works which force the viewer to become an active participant in the process of interpretation. Following the talk, which also offers advice to developing artists, the speaker answers questions which range from the physical and mental aspects of his art practice, to his decision to number rather than title his pieces; his thoughts on beauty as it relates to his art; and issues of conservation of works fabricated from unstable materials.
