Kevin Everson, Visiting Artist Lecture 2018
Abstract
Film-maker Kevin Everson talks about his process as an artist through showing his photographs and films. Everson reflects on how he originally started taking photographs with a wide lux camera, using 35mm film and repositioning the frames of his photographs to include people of african descent posing, performing with objects of representation, or making art. Everson later on makes the switch to films, talking about themes in his work which range from duration, labour, class structure and the importance of materiality. Throughout the lecture Everson also reflects on the importance of working with subject matter that comes from found footage, and the need to also sometimes reenact found footage.
