Kenneth Callahan , Resident Artist Lecture 1963

Kenneth Callahan gives a lecture at Skowhegan talking about various historical moments throughout painting, ranging from Abstract Expressionism to Impressionism, to the current movements in contemporary painting. Callahan says how new current moments in art that he sees all around him in New York are inevitably built from past discoveries. Callahan mentions a wide range of painters throughout his lecture, stating that the painters who become remembered forever are the ones who are able to achieve genuine identity in their work. Callahan warns participants not to try so hard to constantly be experimental and creative, but instead stay open to what they will find. When they open themselves up, they will find a way to their practice.
