Julieta Aranda, Visiting Artist Lecture 2018

Julieta Aranda reflects on the ways in which having a conceptual practice has allowed her to deal with issues around time paradoxes, power structures, and systems of representation. Throughout the lecture, Aranda shows a series of drawings, films and photographs over the last twelve years. Aranda further reflects on different systems of representation with a specific focus on images that don’t meet the eye, how to map out images and ideas through equations and data, and the ways in which dealing with the boundaries of history has allowed Aranda to challenge her own performance with history. Aranda ends her lecture with thinking about how artists can align themselves with larger systems of measurement, and contemplating on science fiction futures that don’t quite materialize.
