Julianne Swartz, Resident Artist Lecture 2008
Abstract
Artist Julianne Swartz talks about her light and sound installations, kinetic sculptures and photographic work done between 1999, when she was a participant at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, and 2008. She makes observations about her relationship to the sites where her installations are displayed, the role of failure in her art practice, and her interest in exploring issues of politics, irony and sentimentality through her work, as well as how she views her relationship with the viewer.
