Juan Sánchez, Visiting Artist Lecture 2019

Artist Juan Sánchez gives a lecture at Skowhegan spanning his photography, collage, and painting practice. Sánchez talks about his experiences growing up in New York being influenced by the muralist art he saw in the city depicting Black and Brown communities. Sánchez also talks about his formal process: how he layers his paints and prints to add a richness so viewers can engage with the work but also contend with the issue that he is addressing: colonialism, identity, and social issues.
