John Moore, Resident Artist Lecture 1980

John Moore shows a series of slides documenting his paintings, drawing and watercolours from 1965-present. Moore is interested in examining light situations in his work, juxtaposing the notion of still life, landscape, and the foreground. Moore often drew from his watercolours as an entry point to create his paintings. Moore would also draw from city scapes and interiors, talking about the relationship between foreground and background and how light also operated in these scenes as well. For Moore, he found that figure paintings also existed because they created certain kinds of parallel relationships for him as an artist.
