Jennie C. Jones, Resident Artist Lecture 2014

Artist Jennie C. Jones shows a series of slides depicting her interdisciplinary practice. At the core of Jones’ practice is a search for neo-modernism, and how these notions are manifested through a multi-disciplinary way through sound, sculpture, works on paper, sight-based projects, and painting. For Jones, her practice is a comment on and a continuum of the conceptual ideologies of jazz, honouring the deep radical legacies of its experimentation, hybrid modernist forms, and wit and rift. Jones seeks to merge art history, black history, and music history within the realm of an abstract language. Jones states that this construction of an abstract language and a search of neo-modernism also manifests itself through her interest in conceptualism, jazz, and hybrid music.
