Jean Cohen, Resident Artist Lecture 1995
Abstract
Jean Cohen gives a lecture reflecting on her experiences being one of the first participants at Skowhegan. Cohen also talks about her painting practice, and how it is something that she seeks to always be expressive and impressionistic. Abstract painting is also important for Cohen. Cohen seeks to challenge herself to create a painting that is purely abstract which is non referential and non geometric, but that can add elements of landscape and have a fine line between what is recognizable and what is abstract. Another source of inspiration for Cohen is playing with triptychs, because it allows Cohen to understand in between dimensions in her work.
