Janine Antoni, Resident Artist Lecture 1998

Abstract

Conceptual/installation artist Janine Antoni presents a slide and video-illustrated lecture of her work, beginning with a piece called Wean, created shortly after her graduation from art school, which she feels was predictive of future work in its exploration of the relationship of the body to culture. The lecture includes commentary on her most recent work. The pieces, most of which are named, are described in detail: concept, materials, process, problems encountered. Also shown are works of artist Nari Ward. In response to a question Antoni discusses her conflicted attitude towards art as object.
