Janet Fish, Resident Artist Lecture 1974

Abstract

Janet Fish gives a lecture at Skowhegan where she talks about her painting practice, which is rooted in abstract expressionism. Fish explains how working in abstraction expressionism eventually led her to painting landscapes, interiors, and portraits. Fish states that she always paints exactly what she sees, and finds deep fascination in observing what’s happening in something right in front of her. Fish ends the lecture reflecting on her time as a student at Yale, as well as her time as a participant at Skowhegan in 1961.
