James McGarrell, Resident Artist Lecture 1968

In his second lecture at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture (previous lecture 1964), painter James McGarrell shows work dating from 1954 through work in progress, and talks about his interest in going against a prevailing minimalist trend to create paintings which are about complexity on many levels, from subject to formal elements, and how this is reflected in the pieces shown. The lecture is incomplete and marred by numerous unintelligible words and phrases.
