Isabel Bishop, Visiting Artist Lecture 1966

Artist Isabel Bishop gives a lecture at Skowhegan in which she talks about her prolific painting practice. She engages in a lengthy, intimate conversation with the participants, urging them to always be critics in order for them to realize what they think is considered valid in today’s art. Bishop further asks the participants where they think it is possible to find new forms of judgment of invalidity. She tells artists they need to find new ways of conceptualization in their thinking in order to resist nostalgia and to find ways to stay alive.
