George Schneeman, Fresco Lecture 1979

Abstract

George Schneeman gives an art historical lecture at Skowhegan, showing a series of slides of art work which surveys a range of artists who have inspired Schneeman. These artworks range from paintings which depict landscapes, figures, and still life, to portraiture. Schneeman also talks about the process of Egyptian iconography paintings, and the history of artists working in fresco and ceramics. Schneeman in particular profiles Roman Frescos, examining their history which comes from Pompeii, and the ways in which the frescos became distinctly unique for their smooth surfaces. Schneeman ends his lecture by then shifting gears and talking about his own painting practice which includes frescos.
